Lake Liepaja is a large lake in the city of Liepaja and in the districts of Grobina and Nica. From 1697 to 1703, a canal was dug to connect the lake with the sea, as the natural outflow of the lake is blocked by sand. The lake is home to nesting birds. A protected area has been established in the southern part of the lake. It is an important place for birds.
