Ruins of the Livonian Order Castle

On the left bank of the Tebra River, the ruins of the Livonian Order Castle can be seen. The information about the year of the castle's construction is quite unclear and contradictory, but locals believe that the construction of the castle can be dated back to 1249, and this year is also accepted as the founding year of the city of Aizpute.

It is believed that the castle served both as an administrative and economic center, as well as a border fortification at the meeting point of the Livonian Order and the Bishopric of Courland territories.
