Monument 'United Latvia' Add an Object
The monument 'United Latvia' or 'Māra of Latgale' is located in the center of Rēzekne, on Atbrīvošanas aleja. It was sculpted by Kārlis Jansons based on the project by Leon Tomašickis. The monument was unveiled on September 8, 1939, and has been restored twice: in 1943 and 1992. The monument is 11 meters high, with its foundations laid 3.5 meters deep. The pink granite for the pedestal and the bronze casting were brought from Finland. The composition of the monument consists of 3 figures: a chain breaker, a fallen girl, and a standing girl with a cross in her hand. The chain breaker symbolizes the struggle of Latgale for independence during the fight for Latvia's freedom, the fallen girl represents prayer, and the standing girl with a cross represents free Latgale.
