Rainis and Aspazija House Add an Object
Rainis and Aspazija House is a memorial museum dedicated to Rainis and Aspazija in Riga, Baznicas Street 30. The museum has been open since 1993.
The museum is located in a two-story wooden house in the center of Riga, built in 1878. The writers bought this house in 1924, but they only settled in one of the apartments on September 15, 1926. Rainis lived in the apartment until his death, while Aspazija moved to a new residence in the spring of1933.
The house on Baznicas Street is the most authentic of all the memorial places associated with Rainis and Aspazija, as it has been least affected by renovations and other changes of the time. The significance of this house is evidenced by the entry in both poets' wills: "The house at 30 Baznicas Street remains the property of the city of Riga, where a museum in our name should be established. The house also contains our library and manuscripts, which are accessible to everyone..."
In 1993, partial restoration of the memorial apartment was carried out.
