Alley of Remembrance for the Repressed, Memorial Stone

An alley of linden and oak trees was planted in 1942 to commemorate the 50 deportees from Aizpute who were sent to Siberia: an oak tree was planted for each deported man, and a linden tree for each woman. The alley was restored in 1989, replacing the missing trees with new ones. A large memorial stone was also unveiled, bearing the words of Kārlis Skalbe: "I will lay the dream of my homeland on a pillow." Every year on March 25th and June 14th - the days of deportation - people gather here to remember the deported and oppressed.
