Riga Holy Trinity Cathedral Add an Object
The construction of the cathedral began in 1902, when Russian Tsar Nicholas II allocated 75,000 rubles from the state treasury, but these funds were insufficient. A fundraising campaign was announced in all Russian churches to complete the construction. Funds were collected from donations in churches and from individual donations by wealthy Latvian Russian merchants. In 1907, the cathedral was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. It was built according to the project by K. Pekshen. It is one of the most impressive and powerful Orthodox temples in Latvia, with a diverse range of Russian-Byzantine style motifs dominating its architecture.
