Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum Add an Object
The Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum was established in the former residence of the artists and opened to visitors in 2008. R. Suta was a painter, book designer and illustrator, set and film visual designer, art critic, and art studio director. A. Beļcova, on the other hand, was a professional artist known for her high artistic quality and unique solutions in her works from the 1920s to 1930s.
The museum showcases both the living space of the artists - their former apartment - as well as their created works and evidence of their lives. Preserved are furniture and other household objects, paintings, graphic works, sketches, and photographs. The approximate number of artworks on display is estimated to be around 4000. The exhibition also includes video materials, such as scenes with R. Suta's portrayal in the art film 'Kaugurieši' (director Voldemārs Pūce, 1941). The museum also houses television programs about art created by both artists' daughter, art historian Tatjana Suta.
Since 2010, one of the museum's rooms has been hosting small thematic exhibitions that explore various aspects of Aleksandra Beļcova and Romans Suta's creative activities or biographies, acquaint visitors with the diversity of their art, or present the art and culture of the time represented by both artists in a broader context.
The museum regularly organizes various events covering visual and applied arts, theater, cinema, art history, television, music, and other cultural areas associated with both artists and their family members.
Visitors are welcome from Tuesday to Saturday (for more information, please visit the LNMM website).
