It was built in the early 1970s. The construction of the stage involved city companies and institutions. Elevated seating for the audience was created by stacking construction waste. The first major event at the newly built stage was the 4th Rūjiena District Song Festival in 1973, conducted by Daumants Gailis. The open-air stage is used for summer outdoor events such as green balls, outdoor theater performances, Midsummer festivities, and city celebrations.
