Sarkankalna Hospital Add an Object

Sarkankalna Hospital is considered to be the first psychiatric healing institution in Latvia in a modern understanding, which was already engaged in the treatment of patients, not just their supervision. Moreover, it was regarded as a model institution throughout Russia. The Rotenberg institution was the forge of local Baltic psychiatrists and its doctors did a lot to improve the living conditions of mentally ill patients. Sarkankala Hospital was opened on December 24, 1862, by Riga doctor Gregors Brucers, whose official name was "Heilanstalt Rothenberg bei Riga" or "Asyl Rothenberg," simply known as "Bruceru" among the people.
