Square with a Fountain across from Majori Station Add an Object
This is the beginning of the old Jomas Street. In 1877, the first pharmacy was located here, which later burned down in a major fire. In 1953, the sculpture 'Lāčplēsis' by L. Kristovskis was placed in the square. The monument was built based on folk art traditions and depicts Lāčplēsis fighting a dragon. Lāčplēsis is a symbol of Latvian culture, symbolizing the fight against dark forces to free Latvia from all evil. The sculpture and the square were renovated in 2003, and in 2006, the 'Apvārsnis' fountain was unveiled.
