Monument "Fight of Lāčplēsis"
In the Latvian epic poem "Lāčplēsis", which is about a Latvian hero, an important role is played by a girl named Spīdala, who resides in Aizkraukle Castle together with her father Aizkrauklis on the banks of the Daugava River. Honoring the heroes of the epic and the country, there is a monument called "Fight of Lāčplēsis with a Knight" in the city of Aizkraukle. The author of the monument is sculptor Gaida Grundberga.
Every year on Lāčplēsis Day, the people of Aizkraukle gather at the monument to commemorate the heroes who fell in the fight for freedom.
