In 1935, the church was in a very poor condition, with even the church tower at risk of collapsing. In 1936, the old church tower was demolished, and on the same day, the foundation stone for the new tower was laid. The construction of the tower and the painting of the church interior were completed in the same year. In the following year, 1937, the church exterior and the new tower were plastered, and it was also consecrated in the same year. Inside the church, one can admire the painting "Christ and Peter on the Sea" by I. Zeberiņš.
