The St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Liepaja is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Liepaja, which is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Riga. It is also the residence of the bishop of the Liepaja and Kurzeme Diocese. Initially, there was a small wooden church in Liepaja, which was built in 1508 and dedicated to St. Anne. The cathedral gets its name from the fact that it became the residence of the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Liepaja or the Liepaja and Kurzeme Diocese, thus acquiring the title of cathedral. The Liepaja Diocese is governed by Bishop Edvards Pavlovskis.
