St. Simeon and St. Anna Orthodox Cathedral Add an Object
Similar to Jelgava Palace, this church is also associated with the name of architect F.B. Rastrelli. In 1774, a small single-domed church was built according to Rastrelli's design, but it suffered serious damage in a fire in 1883. At the same time, as the population of the Courland Governorate grew, it became too small for the needs of the congregation. In 1892, construction of a new five-domed church (architect N. Čagins) was completed, partially preserving the foundations and altar wall of the old church. During World War II, the church was destroyed, and restoration work began in 1992, lasting until 2003.
