Svētbirze Add an Object
At the intersection of the old Jelgava - Riga and Kalnciems road, tree plantations were made on Forest Day in 1936. Among the birch and oak trees stands the Unity Oak, planted in the presence of General Jānis Balodis. Svētbirze has become a gathering place for the repressed of Jelgava and their relatives during events commemorating the victims of repression. A memorial stone has been installed there, along with a designated bonfire area. In the corner of Svētbirze, there are the graves of Latvian legionnaires who fell in World War II. At the entrance, the foundation of the Drīzene pyramid, built in 1797, has survived, on which the inscription 'Svētbirze' is placed.
