Temple Hill Add an Object
Temple Hill is the oldest inhabited place in Aluksne district, located at the top of which is the Glory Temple - a granite rotunda. In 1807, on the top of it, Baron Fitinghoff of Aluksne had a granite rotunda - the Temple of Glory - built in honor of the events of the Northern War in Aluksne. The rotunda is dedicated to the memory of Russian Field Marshal Sheremetev and Swedish Army Captain Wulf. In 1937, the city's tourism and amenities committee began construction of tourist facilities on Temple Hill. One of the objects was an air bridge made of concrete and wood, which, after evaluating the results of the announced competition, was named the Sun Bridge. The bridge was restored in 1995.
Among many stories, one of the most popular tells that during the Northern War, the fighters on Temple Hill wore hats to better shoot at Aluksne Castle on the island in the lake.
