Market Square Add an Object

The Market Square has long captured the attention of researchers studying the ancient buildings and layout of Ventspils. It was once considered the oldest center of Ventspils. The central object of the reconstructed Market Square is a bell tower with a clock, symbolizing the unrealized idea of the city council to install a central clock in the Town Hall tower. Each of the three clock dials provides different information - Latvian time, Moon phase, and the corresponding day of the week. At round hours, the clock plays the melody of the song "By the Amber Sea", and at 12:33 and 00:33 it chimes with the chorus of Uldis Marhilēvičs' song "Forward, Kurzeme" to mark the special time in Ventspils. The bell tower building houses an attractive element - a large number of dice, as well as an exhibition of weights, volumes, and measures designed by sculptor Gļebs Panteļejevs.
