Her 101st birthday

Last year, Mrs Firsta celebrated her 100th birthday together with the nursing home’s residents, friends and other well-wishers, enjoying musical performances and congratulations, but this year the celebration had to be quieter. Mrs Firsta was not upset about this, as health was the most important thing, and the senior does not complain about hers: “I have never been down in the dumps,” A. Firsta laughs. In turn, the nursing home team wished her strong health, joy in life and optimism.

Mrs Firsta lived and grew up in Saldus, in a large family with seven brothers. Life had its twists and turns, but work, which brought comfort, was always the most important thing. As a child, she tended cattle; later, she did many hard jobs and even worked in the forest. Yet the children knew not only how to work hard, but also how to fool around and celebrate holidays—with beautiful verses recited by the Christmas tree earning them presents. Mrs Firsta also enjoyed open-air dances and was good at teasing boys. Her first great love was taken by the war, which caused Mrs Firsta much sorrow for a long time. She married her husband at the age of 25, and they spent their entire life together in Ukri Parish, Auce Municipality.
