On 18 May, the first-round stage of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition took place in Jūrmala!

Jūrmala will be represented by Jūrmala Primary School “Atvase” in the CSDD National Final of the Young Cyclists’ Competition

On 18 May, the first-round stage of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition took place in Jūrmala. The highest score and victory were achieved by the “Zobrati” team from Jūrmala Primary School “Atvase”: Kārlis Uģis Ābelīte, Kristiāns Kuļšs, Annija Paula Panke, Terēze Priedola, Katrīna Pūpola, Artūrs Prokopčiks, and teachers Sandis Bērziņš and Rodrigo Kronbergs.

Five teams from the city of Jūrmala took part in the 24th stage of the first round of the CSDD Young Cyclists’ Competition “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”: two from Jūrmala Kauguri Secondary School and one each from Jūrmala Primary School “Atvase”, Sloka Basic School and Majori Secondary School. During the competition, the pupils demonstrated their theoretical knowledge of traffic regulations, first aid and bicycle construction, and also had to complete rides on two courses.

In the overall standings, the “Zobrati” team from Jūrmala Primary School “Atvase” scored 653 points and took first place. As the 24th team, it advances to the second round—the National Final, which will take place from 5 to 6 June.

Overall results:

1st place: “Zobrati” team from Jūrmala Primary School “Atvase”; 653 points;

2nd place: “Zibenīši” team from Sloka Basic School; 438 points;

3rd place: “Drošie un Veiklie” team from Majori Secondary School; 382 points;

4th place: “Bulta” team from Jūrmala Kauguri Secondary School; 369 points;

5th place: “Pitons” team from Jūrmala Kauguri Secondary School; 236 points.

The CSDD has been organising the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia for 22 years, aiming to interest young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds; the first round is held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The upcoming competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Thursday, 21 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Limbaži City Stadium; school teams from Limbaži, Salacgrīva and Aloja Municipalities are invited to participate;

• Friday, 22 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base near the Riga Motor Museum; school teams from Babīte, Mārupe, Olaine, Ķekava, Salaspils,

Garkalne, Ropaži, Mālpils, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Carnikava, Ādaži, Saulkrasti, Baldone, Krimulda, Stopiņi and Sēja Municipalities, as well as from the city of Riga, are invited to participate;

• Monday, 25 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Rēzekne Secondary School No. 5; schools from the city of Rēzekne, Viļāni Municipality and Rēzekne Municipality are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 26 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ludza Recreation Park; school teams from Kārsava, Ludza, Zilupe and Cibla Municipalities are invited to participate;

• Wednesday, 27 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Gulbene City Stadium; school teams from the city and municipality of Gulbene are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the National Final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final participating.

To participate in the competition, pupils must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—come up with a team name, and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. Participation by a team in the competition must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the specific team and pupils in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the competition content, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been a partner in the CSDD’s educational projects for many years. The competition is implemented by the association “Par stipru Latviju”; it is funded from OCTA resources and supported by the Latvian Automobile and Motorcycling Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
