On 19 May, the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” took place in Cēsis

The “Velointas” team from Priekuļi Secondary School wins the CSDD young cyclists’ competition in Cēsis

On 19 May, the first-round competition stage of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” took place in Cēsis. The highest score and victory went to the “Velointas” team from Priekuļi Secondary School: Sabīne Nīmane, Petra Paula Petroviča, Kristers Bajārs, Arnolds Bajārs, Vaino Markuss Kārkliņš, Ksenija Zlotina, and teachers Sandra Pupure and Ruta Purvinska.     

The nationwide marathon of the CSDD young cyclists’ competition “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” continues; the twenty-fifth first-round stage in Cēsis was attended by fourteen teams from Cēsis, Priekuļi and Līgatne. The pupils demonstrated their theoretical knowledge of traffic regulations, first aid and bicycle construction, and also had to complete rides on two courses.

With 614 points in the overall standings, the “Velointas” team from Priekuļi Secondary School took first place. As the 25th team, it qualifies for the second round, which will take place from 5 to 6 June. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final taking part.

6th place: “Zipšņi” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 415 points;

7th place: “Velo Tigers” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 409 points;

8th place: “DIF” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 393 points;

9th place: “Laser Cheetahs” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 390 points;

10th place: “Fire Pedals” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 383 points;

11th place: “Strength Is Speed” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 375 points;

12th place: “Merry Riders” from Līgatne Municipality Secondary School; 313 points;

13th place: “Adventure Seekers” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 297 points;

14th place: “Fast and Without Mercy” from Priekuļi Secondary School; 281 points.

The CSDD has been organising the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia for 22 years, in order to interest young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, the first of which is held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Thursday, 21 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Limbaži City Stadium; school teams from Limbaži, Salacgrīva and Aloja municipalities are invited to participate;

• Friday, 22 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base near the Riga Motor Museum; school teams from Babīte, Mārupe, Olaine, Ķekava, Salaspils, Garkalne, Ropaži, Mālpils, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Carnikava, Ādaži, Saulkrasti, Baldone, Krimulda, Stopiņi and Sēja municipalities, as well as from the city of Riga, are invited to participate;

• Monday, 25 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Rēzekne Secondary School No. 5; schools from the city of Rēzekne and Viļāni and Rēzekne municipalities are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 26 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Ludza Recreation Park; school teams from Kārsava, Ludza, Zilupe and Cibla municipalities are invited to participate;

• Wednesday, 27 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Gulbene City Stadium; school teams from the city and municipality of Gulbene are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” – the Latvian final – is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final taking part.

To participate in the competition, pupils must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people – three girls and three boys – choose a team name, and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. Participation by the team must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the particular team and pupils in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults – teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the competition content, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been the CSDD’s partner in educational projects for many years. The competition is implemented by the association “For a Strong Latvia”; it is financed from OCTA funds and supported by the Latvian Automobile and Motorcycling Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
