On 29 May, there will be a market on Rīgas Street and a flea market in the Fortress in Daugavpils city news

On 29 May, after a break of more than six months, a market will once again be held on Rīgas Street in Daugavpils, along with a flea market in the Fortress. Both events will be organized in compliance with strict epidemiological safety measures.

The markets on Rīgas Street have gained great popularity among both buyers and traders over the years, sometimes bringing together more than 100 businesses not only from various parts of Latvia, but also from neighboring countries. Several dozen traders were also planning to participate in the October event, which was canceled due to the epidemiological situation. Some of them will be able to do so now.

The May market, which will take place from 10:00 to 16:00, will not be as extensive as before for objective reasons: only local businesses will operate there, and the sales stands will be arranged in accordance with the applicable regulations. Rīgas Street is long enough to accommodate three zones, with no more than 20 traders in each. The distance between tents will be 3 metres, while the distance between groups of traders will be at least 9 metres. However, the range of products on offer will be sufficiently broad and varied: visitors will be able to purchase agricultural goods, seedlings, handicrafts, blankets, pillows, clothing, haberdashery, bread and meat products, teas, wines, cheeses, Oriental sweets, and many other delicacies and useful household items.

Meanwhile, those interested in history and unusual household items will be able to go to the Fortress, where a flea market will operate from 10:00 to 14:00. The location remains unchanged: the square by the White Horse. Here too, everything will be organized in accordance with epidemiological regulations: products may be offered by 20 traders, who will be positioned several metres apart from one another.

All traders and visitors at the market on Rīgas Street and at the flea market must strictly observe physical distancing and wear face masks. To avoid crowding and unnecessary gatherings, people are encouraged to visit the sales locations if they genuinely wish to purchase something, rather than simply pass the time. The flow of people and compliance with the regulations will be monitored by the Municipal Police.
