To promote and develop young people’s interest in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, as well as to foster their interest in current trends in science, on 5 December, the second session of the Daugavpils University  Science School for this academic year will take place. During the session, 50 young people from the Latgale region will have the opportunity to watch Sandijs Semjonovs’s film "With the Thought of a Better World", which is being screened as part of Documentary Film Month.

During the school’s sessions, participants attend free lectures and practical classes, engage in exploring current developments in science, take on the role of a researcher, investigate a topic of interest to them that may help them choose a profession, and learn to work with modern equipment.

The joint session of the Science School, “Career Management Skills: Youth Initiatives”, will be led by the head of the DU Career and Initiative Support Centre. After the joint lecture, practical classes will take place from 12:00 in the scientific institutes, centres and departments of DU, divided into 4 groups. The first group of participants interested in natural sciences will explore the secrets of the world of lichens, while the second group will have the opportunity to learn about the uses of meteorological instruments. Meanwhile, participants interested in the humanities will explore the traditions of celebrating Christmas in Daugavpils in the 20th century, while those interested in the social sciences will learn how to become an entrepreneur.

Sessions at the DU Science School take place once a month and are led by both DU lecturers and guest lecturers. Participants who attend more than 50% of the sessions will receive a certificate worth 5 points when applying to any DU bachelor’s study programme.
