Ventspils Digital Centre invites physics, biology, chemistry and natural sciences teachers to take the opportunity to participate in the training course “Digital Tools in Learning Natural Sciences”, which will expand educators’ knowledge of how to diversify and improve the learning process using the free tools Stop Motion Studio and Wordwall. During the training, participants will learn methodological techniques for using digital tools in a variety of ways to foster interdisciplinary connections and study different topics.

There will be 3 online sessions on the ZOOM platform: on 12, 17 and 19 May, from 14:00 to 15:30. Applications for the training course can be submitted here: www.adre.se/dabaszinatnes.

Training programme:

Using digital tools in teaching natural sciences – an opportunity to apply an interdisciplinary learning approach by combining natural sciences, information technology and art.

What are the benefits of using STEM, digital tools and interactive methods, and what potential problem situations may arise? Practical examples for different age groups in natural sciences subjects (biology, chemistry, geography, physics and others).

The digital tool Stop Motion Studio, its use, demonstrations of materials created with the tool, and the joint creation of a sample material.

The digital tool Wordwall, its use, a demonstration of created materials, and the joint creation of a sample material.

Practical work – developing learning material (a video file) for work with students using the Stop Motion Studio tool.

Preparing learning material illustrating a natural sciences process that is useful for the learning process (based on an example provided by the instructor), including:

- the subject in which the material can be used;

- the learning topic.

The created video material must be uploaded to the relevant section of the Moodle course.

Everyone interested is invited to apply by 10 May. The course fee is EUR 25. The training will be led by L. Poruka, an instructor at Ventspils Digital Centre, who has obtained a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences in biology and has been working since 2019 at the Science and Educational Innovation Centre of the Liepāja City Education Department as an education methodologist and extracurricular education teacher. Previously, she worked at the Anatomy Museum of Rīga Stradiņš University as a senior laboratory assistant and lecturer in practical classes for first-year medical students in the subjects “Medical Cell Biology” and “Histology”.
