Next week, on 4 May, Jūrmala will host the Independence Day Cycling Event, which has become a festive tradition in honour of the 27th anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia. This year, too, the event is expected to attract a large number of cycling enthusiasts from across Latvia. Participants will be able to test their abilities on a variety of exciting courses suitable both for professional cyclists and for all enthusiasts of the sport, including families with children. As usual, the fastest and most creative riders will receive valuable prizes.

The organisers of the Independence Day Cycling Event encourage residents to celebrate the national holiday this year in a patriotic, active and positive atmosphere, thereby promoting a healthy lifestyle and enhancing the joy of spending time together with family and friends. Everyone interested is invited to register for one of the four road cycling courses running through the city of Jūrmala. The 126-km Sports Course, full of excitement, will be of interest to professional cyclists; the 37-km Maxima Public Course will delight both individual and team riders; the 9-km Family Course will bring together Latvia’s most active and colourful families from several generations, while the Children’s Race (0.5–1 km) will allow the youngest participants to demonstrate their fighting spirit. In addition, as a special new feature this season, children will also be offered an unprecedented course to complete on balance bikes.

“We are truly delighted to celebrate the anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia with this grand cycling event for the third consecutive year. The event has traditionally united everyone who is passionate about cycling. Thanks to its convenient location and the energising proximity of the sea, Jūrmala is an excellent destination for active recreation, and we believe that this unifying competition will once again become one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the spring in both popular and professional sport,” comments Krista Rumbēna, organiser of the Independence Day Cycling Event.

Alongside the cycling competitions, visitors at the event venue near the Dzintari Concert Hall will be able to enjoy a variety of enticing entertainment activities throughout the day, including inflatable attractions and games for children, mobile market stalls, and tastings. In addition, to ensure the well-being of the competition participants, thirst-quenching natural mineral water VENDEN will be provided at several points along the course, while the technical condition of the bicycles will be carefully monitored by FANS bicycle service.

Registration for the Independence Day Cycling Event is available by completing the form at www.maratoni.lv.  For registrations completed by 30 April, the entry fee is EUR 20 for the Sports Course, EUR 9 for the Public Course, and EUR 5 for the Family Course. For the youngest competition participants, children aged up to 12, participation in the Children’s Course is free of charge when registering in advance. The registration fee will increase on the day of the competition.

The Independence Day Cycling Event is organised by SIA Alpha Baltic Sport, with the city of Jūrmala inviting everyone to the celebrations.
