This month, the charity organisation Ziedot.lv and the Mobilly platform are joining forces for the second time to carry out the #WhiteFriday campaign, whose aim is to encourage people to get involved in supporting the daily work of various charitable and non-governmental organisations. The first #WhiteFriday campaign took place at the beginning of February, and this time, continuing the successfully established tradition, it will take place on Friday, 13 November, reaching an even broader section of society and playing on the assumptions associated with this symbolic date.

The #WhiteFriday campaign is a response to the worldwide Black Friday shopping frenzy, inviting everyone twice a year to experience the true excitement of giving. The campaign highlights the good work carried out by various organisations despite the challenges of everyday life, while also emphasising the importance of small but regular donations in supporting and sustaining their activities. In the long term, the campaign aims to make donating a regular habit in people’s daily lives.

Both donors and the participating charitable organisations have positively assessed the first #WhiteFriday campaign, held at the beginning of this year, noting that it has the potential to become increasingly widespread. This time, people will be invited to support more than thirty different organisations and projects, but the campaign organisers remind everyone that financial support is only one way of donating, and that the opportunities to do good are endless.

“The #WhiteFriday giving initiative reminds us and gives us the opportunity to help those in need, improve the environment in which we all live, and create a more united, open and tolerant society,” comments Rūta Dimanta, head of the organisation Ziedot.lv.

Donations directly reflect society’s mood, values and desire to contribute to solving global problems—a desire that became particularly evident during the Covid-19 pandemic, when initiatives such as “A Table for Our Own,” which provided healthcare workers with hot lunches every day, and the #vieglipalīdzēt movement, which continues to raise funds to provide legal assistance to people arrested during the protests in Belarus, received significant support through various donation platforms.

“Some initiatives that are important to society are implemented only thanks to regular donations. Of course, organisations’ needs change along with current events, but a small, regular contribution can greatly help those who need it. As a company and as individuals, it is important for us to contribute to the development of social processes, which is why, for the first time, we are now offering Mobilly app users the opportunity to automatically donate a chosen amount of money each month to a specific cause,” says Mobilly CEO Ģirts Slaviņš.

The campaign organisers invite people to visit the whitefriday.lv platform this Friday, learn about the initiatives and donate a larger or smaller sum of money to a charitable or non-governmental organisation that works for the benefit of society. Their goals may differ, but their desire is the same—to build a better Latvian society. It is symbolic that this autumn’s giving marathon is taking place on the legendary Black Friday, or Friday the 13th. Everyone is therefore invited to use the Instagram app filters specially prepared for this campaign, in order to visualise the otherwise intangible results of their good deed and symbolically illuminate this “black” date.

Information about the campaign and various charitable organisations is available at whitefriday.lv. Donations can be made on the mobilly.lv and ziedot.lv platforms using the Mobilly app, as well as by supporting organisations individually and making direct donations.
