The Great Cleanup will take place on 24 April this year; however, as every year, the whole of April in Valmiera is the month for spring cleanup. Given that the spread of Covid-19 remains high and social distancing rules are in force, this year, as last year, residents of Valmiera can organise solo cleanups, duo cleanups and family cleanups. This year, we particularly invite everyone to clean up the city’s public natural areas, the recreational trails popular with Valmiera residents, as well as any other public area where waste needs to be collected or improvement work carried out.
To agree on a place to leave the collected waste bags or to receive bags and support for organising the cleanup, the Valmiera City Municipality invites you to contact the Great Cleanup coordinator, Dzintars Francis, by phone at 28314534 or by email at talkas@valmiera.lv. When writing an email, please be sure to provide a telephone number for contact.
Already now, everyone wishing to participate in a cleanup can register their cleanup on the online cleanup maps in the “Maps” section of the Great Cleanup website, www.talkas.lv. This will make it possible to coordinate efforts to clean up Valmiera and Latvia in an organised and safe manner.
As this year participants are encouraged to focus on individual cleanups, the cleanup registration map on www.talkas.lv features a special SOLO cleanup map this year. Those who will participate in a cleanup on their own can mark the location where they will collect waste on this map. However, both waste-collection cleanups and improvement cleanups can also be registered on the traditional Great Cleanup map.
The slogan of the Great Cleanup this year is “For a Greener Latvia – Each Apart, but All Together”, because each of us can make a contribution to help Latvia become the greenest and cleanest country in the world.
We also invite you to follow the latest information about the Great Cleanup and spring cleanup activities in Valmiera! As the Great Cleanup approaches, information about its organisation in Valmiera will be updated in accordance with the epidemiological situation and applicable regulations.
