Aigars Strupišs to Attend the General Assembly of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary

From 12 to 14 June, the Chair of the Council for the Judiciary, Aigars Strupišs, will attend the General Assembly of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) in Rome, Italy. This year, the ENCJ General Assembly will discuss access to justice.

ENCJ member states will discuss access to justice in ENCJ member states, migrants’ opportunities to access justice, and the impact of artificial intelligence on access to justice.

The ENCJ General Assembly is also expected to elect a new ENCJ President and Board members, review the results of the ENCJ’s work in 2023/2024, and outline the ENCJ’s tasks for the coming year.

The General Assembly will also receive reports on the work carried out by the working groups. It is planned to approve guidelines for strengthening the professional attractiveness of a judicial career, developed by representatives of ENCJ member states under the leadership of Aigars Strupišs, Chair of the Council for the Judiciary, and a representative of the Belgian Council for the Judiciary.

            The ENCJ General Assembly will also present an award to one of the ENCJ member states for positive changes in its judicial system.

It was previously reported that on 7 June 2023, Aigars Strupišs, Chair of the Council for the Judiciary, was elected to the ENCJ Board as the representative of the Latvian Council for the Judiciary. Aigars Strupišs is to serve as an ENCJ Board member until the ENCJ General Assembly to be held in 2025.

The ENCJ is an organisation that brings together institutions representing the judiciary of the European Union (EU) Member States and independent of the legislature and executive. The aim of establishing the ENCJ is to promote cooperation among the Councils for the Judiciary of the EU Member States, the exchange of experience, and the analysis of shared information.
