On 20 and 21 March, Defence Minister Artis Pabriks will visit Latgale as part of a regional visit and, in Daugavpils, meet with the heads of education authorities and school principals from the Latgale region.

On 20 March, a seminar organised by the Ministry of Defence for the heads of education authorities and school principals from the Latgale region will be held at the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils. During the seminar, Defence Minister A. Pabriks will present the priorities and current issues of Latvia’s defence sector, as well as its development plans.

The seminar will also address current security challenges, the risks posed by the information space, and the organisation of events marking the centenary of the Latvian Army and the War of Independence.  Discussions will also focus on fostering patriotism among young people and introducing national defence education in schools, as well as implementing comprehensive national defence in Latvia, explaining its necessity and the involvement of municipalities.

As part of the regional visit, A. Pabriks will also visit the headquarters of the 3rd Latgale Brigade of the National Guard in Rēzekne to meet with the brigade’s commander, Colonel Māris Simsons, discuss the brigade’s assigned tasks, and learn about its development priorities.

During the visit, the Defence Minister will also visit several units of the 3rd Latgale Brigade of the National Guard—the 32nd Infantry Battalion of the National Guard, the 34th Infantry Battalion of the National Guard, and the 36th Combat Support Battalion of the National Guard—learn about the development of the regional training area “Meža Mackeviči”, and meet with soldiers and guardsmen.
