Last week, the charity organisation Ziedot.lv, together with the company Mobilly, held the nationwide #WhiteFriday donation campaign for the fourth time. Its aim was to support the daily work of more than 90 different charitable and non-governmental organisations and highlight the importance of regular donations. The charity campaign served as a symbolic response to the global shopping frenzy of Black Friday, and as part of it, with the support of members of the public, just under EUR 161,300 was raised on the Mobilly and Ziedot.lv platforms—nearly half as much again as last year.

“The first #WhiteFriday campaign was held in 2020, and our aim is to make it a regular tradition, reaching an ever-wider segment of society each time and achieving even greater goals. Together, we want to highlight the crucial role of good deeds and establish donating as a regular everyday habit in our society. That is why we greatly appreciate every donor’s responsiveness and willingness to help others, because people facing difficulties need our support not only during the holidays but throughout the year,” comments Ģirts Slaviņš, CEO of Mobilly.

Some of the organisations that received the support they needed through donations include the charitable association “Latvian Humanitarian Aid Centre”, for which the donated amount will help provide support to families with children with disabilities. The “I Want to Help Refugees” movement plans to help Ukrainian refugees in Latvia find warmth and comfort; with the help of donations, the “Neklusē” association will continue developing solutions to prevent bullying in schools, while the “Pink Train” charity fund will provide psychological and physiotherapy support to women affected by breast cancer. The funds donated to the “Sofi” charity fund will likewise be used to help abandoned pets in Ukraine, while the donation to the public benefit organisation “Brīnummāja” will be used to provide practical daily assistance to children with language-development disorders.

“Ukraine’s example shows that a nation can survive only when it is united. This also applies to relatively small but no less important matters such as the health of our fellow citizens, preventing bullying and protecting animals—just some of the needs we highlighted this year. The #WhiteFriday campaign clearly proves that by actively encouraging public involvement in solving various problems, together we can accomplish ever greater things each year,” says Rūta Dimanta, head of Ziedot.lv.

The organisers of #WhiteFriday remind everyone that donations to various Latvian organisations can be made every day through ziedot.lv and mobilly.lv, as well as via the Mobilly app, outside the campaign period too.
