Exhibition "The Sphinx's Smile" by Anita Paegle
The exhibited drawings are created as illustrations for Māra Cielēna's book "The Sphinx's Smile of Alberta" and depict the diverse characters of people living in the street, as well as the decorations of Art Nouveau buildings and stained glass windows on Alberta Street.
Anita Paegle is a graduate of the J. Rozentāls Riga Art School and the Graphic Department of the Latvian Academy of Art. Since 1981, she has been illustrating children's books. The artist has been a winner of the book art competition "Most Beautiful Book of the Year" (2001), received the Pastariņš Prize for children's book illustrations (1991, 2000), a diploma at the Tallinn Illustration Triennial (2003), the J. Baltvilks Prize (2006), the I. Zeberiņš Prize (2007), the book art competition "Golden Apple" award (2005, 2014), and has been nominated multiple times for the highest international award in the field of children's literature and illustration - the Hans Christian Andersen Award (2012, 2016). In 2000, she was included in the IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) - World Council of Children's and Youth Literature list of honored illustrators.
