The Tangoriginales Ensemble Invites You to Discover the World of Tango and Jazz

On 14 October at 20:00, the new tango-jazz ensemble Tangoriginales will perform at the Kaņepes Culture Centre, 15 Skolas Street. The programme will feature contemporary arrangements and transcriptions of masterpieces by the legendary nuevo tango composer Astor Piazzolla, as well as arrangements of songs by renowned jazz performers and cover versions of contemporary popular music hits. 

The ensemble members are students at a music academy, yet their professional experience is already quite impressive—they are winners of international competitions, have performed on Latvian television, participated in international festivals, and given solo concerts. Masterful performance, impeccable repertoire selection, and an emotional performing style draw listeners into the dramatic world of tango, while life-affirming jazz brings positive emotions and a sense of freedom. 

Tangoriginales consists of: Marks Viļenskis (cello), Savva Zihs (accordion), and Andris Veinbergs (double bass).

Tangoriginales was founded in 2014 by students at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, where playing in a chamber ensemble is a compulsory subject. The idea for the tango ensemble came from Marks Viļenskis, who recalled his experience on the television competition “Created for Music”, where he performed Astor Piazzolla’s music for the first time. During his first year, he met accordion virtuoso Savva Zihs and brought his schoolmate Andris Veinbergs into the project. Veinbergs is one of Latvia’s most sought-after double bassists and also a rock musician, and together they immediately began working on their first concert programme. 

Admission to the concert is symbolic—1 euro.
