Mārupes MTB Cycling Marathon Held with Impressive Victories

On Sunday, 11 September, the Mārupes MTB, or mountain biking, competition returned to Mārupė Municipality after a two-year break, featuring an even more exciting course. The event honoured the most successful professional cyclists and enthusiasts of the sport from across Latvia. 

Alongside the competition, participants in the Mārupes MTB Marathon also enjoyed an extensive programme of entertainment activities, making the sunny Sunday a day filled with invigorating sporting emotions.

The youngest participants, aged up to 12, were the first to start at 10:00, joining together to complete the 0.5–1 km Maxima Children’s Ride. At the finish line, they received commemorative medals and reflective safety vests from the Spice shopping centre. This was followed by the start of the challenging 55 km Sport Distance, which was won by the successful ZZK team athlete Arnis Pētersons. In the women’s category, the clear fastest finisher was Latvia’s cycling champion Katrīna Jaunslaviete.

The 40 km SPICE People’s Distance also brought several hundred of Latvia’s and foreign countries’ most active cycling enthusiasts to the starting line. The fastest among them was Hawaii Express team rider Toms Dinsbergs. Finally, shortly after midday, the unifying 25 km Health Ride was launched as the final competition distance, with award-winning Latvian racing driver Reinis Nitišs finishing first.
