Liepāja residents will be able to report needed improvements in the urban environment more conveniently via a mobile app

To expand residents’ opportunities to conveniently provide information about improvements needed in the urban environment and to promote communication with the Liepāja Municipal Government, a mobile app called “Liepāja City” has been created.

Initially, the app offers four functions: reporting needed improvements in the urban environment, planning a journey on the city’s public transport, viewing upcoming events, and receiving the most important notifications from the municipal government.

In the app’s “Send a message” section, residents are invited to inform the municipal government about improvements needed in the urban environment. Reports can concern areas under the responsibility of the Municipal Services Department, such as burnt-out lights, potholes in the road surface, damaged benches, or broken tree branches in city parks. When making suggestions or reporting problems, users can attach images and indicate the precise location. The submitted reports will be processed and forwarded to the responsible services, and feedback on the status of resolving the particular case will be provided in the app.

In the “Transport” section, users can plan a journey on the city’s public transport, including viewing and using the real-time transport map, route planner, and timetable. Public transport passengers have already appreciated the real-time map, which shows public transport movement online.

In the “Events” section, users can view upcoming events and activities in Liepāja, including filtering events by venue, time, and type, and saving interesting events to their calendar.

In the “Notifications” section, users can view the latest municipal government notifications in one place. To avoid missing the most important news, users can choose to receive push notifications.

The “Liepāja City” mobile app can be downloaded free of charge to a smart device:

An internet connection (mobile data or Wi-Fi) is required to use the app, and users must authenticate by entering their telephone number.

The app is also planned to be further developed, with new services to be created, such as electronic payments for public transport tickets, submitting applications to receive municipal services, surveys to determine residents’ opinions, and a digital passport for pets. The introduction of further modules depends on the available funding.

The app was developed and integrated with the municipal document management system by SIA “ZZ Dats” for a contract value of EUR 50,040.
