Indoor BMX Winter Training Facility to Open

On Tuesday, 19 February, at 3:30 p.m., the indoor BMX winter training facility and the renovated gymnasium of Ventspils Secondary School No. 2 will be ceremonially opened.

Active construction work has been under way at Ventspils Secondary School No. 2 since the beginning of 2018—the new indoor BMX winter training facility was being built. The time has come when construction of the building has been completed and it can be used by the students of the BMX section of the Cycling Department at Ventspils Sports School “Spars.” At the same time as the training facility was being built, the gymnasium and its auxiliary rooms at Ventspils Secondary School No. 2 were renovated.

The project consisted of two construction phases. During the first phase, the school gymnasium and its auxiliary rooms were renovated במסגרת the project “Improvement of the Learning Environment Infrastructure and Development of the Material and Technical Base of Educational Institutions.” The gymnasium’s flooring, walls, windows and doors were renovated; forced ventilation and fire detection and alarm systems were installed; the heating unit, water-supply and sewage systems were renewed; and new equipment was installed.

During the second construction phase, a new indoor BMX training facility was built next to Ventspils Secondary School No. 2, where young riders will be able to train for competitions during the winter. The training facility has a 40-metre track with four riding lanes. It also features movable track modules, a starting ramp with a starting gate and its lifting mechanism, bicycle racks, bicycle trainers and a workbench for bicycle repairs.

The total cost of constructing the BMX winter training facility amounted to EUR 952,673, financed from the state budget. The cost of the gymnasium at Ventspils Secondary School No. 2 amounted to EUR 312,147. The construction work was carried out by the construction company SIA “Venttermo”.
