Construction work in the restored Ķemeri Cultural and Historical Park to be completed in August
The reconstruction and restoration work is scheduled to be completed and the Ķemeri Cultural and Historical Park commissioned in August.
An exhibition on the history of the Ķemeri resort was installed in the historic Ķemeri water tower as early as April. Last year, construction work was also completed on the square and car park located in Ķemeri Park.
The pavilion-rotonda on Love Island, the sulphur spring “Ķirzaciņa”, the monument to the founders of the Ķemeri resort and other sites have also been restored to their historic appearance. The bed of the Vēršupīte is being cleaned and deepened, the historic sluices are being reconstructed and the stream’s banks reinforced. The park’s footbridges and walkways have been restored, plantings installed, the surroundings improved and the historic sculpture – the bas-relief “Dance of the Peoples” – restored. A freely accessible drinking-water tap has also been installed.
Built in 1929, the 42-metre-high Ķemeri water tower is an important architectural monument in Latvia. Its restoration was completed in 2020, while preserving the water tower’s primary function – providing water-management services. This year, a tourist information centre and exhibition have also been established in the tower. The Ķemeri water tower, with its exhibitions and tourist information services, is expected to be open to the public for viewing as early as August this year, when the extensive reconstruction work in Ķemeri Park is completed.
The historic layout of Ķemeri Resort Park is being restored based on the 1933–1936 concept – the period when the Ķemeri Hotel, the “Jautrais ods” sports and recreation complex (now “Meža māja”) were opened and the Ķemeri primary school building was constructed.
Once the park’s restoration and construction work has been completed, play equipment intended for children of different ages will be installed in the newly built children’s playground.
Construction work on a multifunctional, interactive nature tourism centre and the amenities of a forest park is scheduled to begin next year. Using innovative and interactive solutions, the nature education centre will give visitors the opportunity to learn, have fun, explore nature and discover its unique diversity.
