In response to demand, paediatric allergist Kristina Amosova will provide consultations for two days next month at Ventspils Polyclinic – on 18 and 19 May. The doctor provides consultations for all types of allergies – including suspected food allergies, persistent runny nose, chronic digestive disorders, and other conditions.

Paediatric allergist K. Amosova specialises in food and drug provocation testing and, in her daily practice, consults patients with various allergy-related problems at the Consultative Polyclinic of Children's Clinical University Hospital. On 18 and 19 May, the doctor will consult patients at Ventspils Polyclinic. “We will identify the cause of the allergy, select appropriate treatment and discuss ways to avoid the allergen responsible and thereby reduce the symptoms of the disease,” the paediatric allergist explains the content of the consultations.

Paediatric allergist K. Amosova can help if a child has:

- persistently impaired breathing through the nose, a runny nose;

- eye redness, tearing, itching, conjunctivitis;

- rashes;

- suspected food allergy;

- chronic digestive disorders;

- a persistent cough, episodes of shortness of breath;

- suspected drug allergy;

- suspected insect allergy.

If necessary, additional examinations may also be performed during the consultation, including allergy skin tests – skin prick tests or skin patch tests, determination of specific immunoglobulin E (IgE), allergen component or molecular allergen diagnostics, and a bronchial dilation or bronchodilation test. However, as Amosova emphasises, one should not focus solely on examinations, as a dialogue with the child's parent also provides a great deal of information. The full conversation with the doctor can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZknUtSC7tbQ.

In 2017, the paediatric allergist graduated from Riga Stradiņš University and obtained certification as a paediatrician and paediatric allergist. She regularly expands her knowledge and presents papers at international conferences and congresses, prepares publications for Latvian medical journals, and produces educational materials for parents of patients with allergies. Last year, she further developed her experience and knowledge at the Bambino Gesù clinic in Italy.

The management of Ventspils Polyclinic has secured state funding for the service, and with a referral from a family doctor, the paediatric allergist's consultation at the polyclinic is covered by the state.
