On Children’s Day, a stage on wheels and lots of bubbles in the streets of Ventspils

On Sunday, 30 May, we invite families with children to go for a walk. In the streets, squares and parks of Ventspils, you will have the opportunity to encounter a travelling musical stage, catch a soap bubble blown by a passing bubble car, sing along with the Dimanta Sisters or listen to a long-unheard but much-loved fairy tale.

From 11.00 to 13.00, the colourful and musical “Bubble-Bubble-Car Cavalcade” will make its way through Ventspils. Cars provided by “Latvijas valsts meži” will travel through the city streets, carrying lots and lots of bubbles and cheerful children’s songs in their trailers. Shortly after 11.00, we will see them in the Great Square, where, after making a lap of honour, they will fill the streets with soap bubbles both in the city and on the Pārventa side. It is said that Cūkmens himself will be sitting at the wheel of the main car.

During the day, from 12.00 to 15.30, a travelling musical stage will move through the streets of Ventspils, stopping at several locations to delight passers-by with short concert programmes. The popular Latvian musicians, the Dimanta Sisters—Laima and Katrīna—will delight the little residents of Ventspils with cheerful and heart-warming children’s songs. At 12.00, the stage will stop at the Children’s Town, then at 12.45 at Anchor Park, and at 13.20 it will visit the beach car park. After travelling through courtyards and small streets, it will stop at the Great Square at 14.10, and arrive at “Fantāzija” in Pārventa at 15.00.

In both Children’s Towns, after the Dimanta Sisters, there will be a special surprise from improviser Marģers Majors, who will entertain everyone with “Hooligan Experiments”.

From 11.00 to 16.00, the Children’s Towns will be filled with music! Both parks will resound with children’s music recordings and the most beautiful fairy tales for children. To the delight of the youngest visitors, fairy-tale characters—the Little Bee and the Ladybird—will be flying around.

We invite children and their parents to take part in the “Latvijas Zaļais punkts” online quiz, with prizes provided by friends from Zaļais punkts. More information is available on the Cultural Centre’s Facebook page.

For many years, the children of Ventspils took part in the Children’s Festival at the end of May. With eyes full of joy, they gathered for a colourful parade and delighted their friends and parents with their skills and wonderful performances. At present, we cannot dance and enjoy ourselves all together in large numbers, but we can still bring joy and a sense of celebration to our youngest children both every day and on a special day—like this one.
