The CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” took place in Ventspils on 6 May!

The seventeenth stage of the first round of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition took place in Ventspils on 6 May. The Pope Primary School team “Pope-1” scored the highest number of points and won first place:

Thirteen teams from the city and municipality of Ventspils took part in the seventeenth stage of the first round of the CSDD young cyclists’ competition “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” in Ventspils. In the overall standings, the “Pope-1” team from Pope Primary School scored 762 points and took first place, automatically qualifying for the second round. Reinis Umbraška won the individual competition.

Overall results:

1st place: “POPE - 1” team from Pope Primary School; 762 points;

2nd place: “Brauc pirmā” team from Ventspils Primary School No. 1; 602 points;

3rd place: “POPE - 2” team from Pope Primary School; 591 points;

4th place: “Piltene rullē!” team from Piltene Secondary School; 529 points;

5th place: “Mutanti” team from Ventspils Secondary School No. 4; 476 points;

6th place: “Superīgie draugi” team from Užava Primary School; 368 points;

7th place: “Čempioni” team from Užava Primary School; 363 points;

8th place: “Ugunīgais sešinieks” team from Ugāle Secondary School; 345 points;

9th place: “RT Ugāle” team from Ugāle Secondary School; 339 points;

10th place: “Happy Wheels” team from Ventspils Central Primary School; 323 points;

11th place: “Sestie” team from Ventspils Primary School No. 6; 306 points;

12th place: “Drošsirdīgie ķipari” team from Ventspils Primary School No. 2; 280 points;

13th place: “Neons” team from Ugāle Secondary School; 192 points.

In the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, be able to provide first aid, know the structure of a bicycle, and complete a practical cycling course.

For 22 years, CSDD has been organising the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia to interest young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round being held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled for:

• Monday, 11 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Balvi Gymnasium; school teams from Baltinava, Balvi, Viļaka and Rugāji municipalities are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 12 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Alūksne Primary School; school teams from Ape and Alūksne municipalities will participate;

• Wednesday, 13 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Ogre Stadium; school teams from Lielvārde, Ķegums, Ogre and Ikšķile municipalities will participate;

• Thursday, 14 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bauska branch of the Riga Motor Museum; teams from schools in Iecava, Bauska, Vecumnieki and Rundāle municipalities are invited to participate;

Friday, 15 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Valmiera Primary School; schools from Mazsalaca, Rūjiena, Burtnieki, Kocēni, Beverīna and Naukšēni municipalities, as well as from the city of Valmiera, are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” — the Latvian final — is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September, with the winning team from the Latvian final participating.

To participate in the competition, students must have been born between 2003 and 2005, form a six-person team — three girls and three boys — come up with a team name, and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the particular team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults — teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by CSDD. In developing the content of the competition, CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been CSDD’s educational project partner for many years. The competition is implemented by the association “Par stipru Latviju”; it is financed from compulsory motor third-party liability insurance funds, while the Latvian Automoto Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) provide support.
