CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” first-round competition in Bauska!

At the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” first-round competition in Bauska on 14 May, the Codes Primary School team “Velo Kids” defeated its competitors in a fierce contest and achieved the highest score: Artis Černovskis, Kristaps Pfeifers, Maikls Gerasimovs, Santa Ģērve, Samanta Ģērve, Sandija Spundiņa and teacher Linda Jakutāviča.

The twenty-second stage of the CSDD young cyclists’ first-round competition in Bauska was attended by five teams from the city of Bauska and Bauska, Iecava and Vecumnieki municipalities. Two teams represented Iecava Secondary School, while one team each took part from Codes Primary School, Skaistkalne Secondary School and Mežgaļi Primary School. In the overall standings, the “Velo Kids” team from Codes Primary School scored 492 points and took first place, automatically qualifying for the second round—the Latvian final. Ņikita Ņikitins won the individual competition.

Overall results:

1st place: “Velo Kids” team from Codes Primary School; 492 points;

2nd place: “Velo Profi” team from Iecava Secondary School; 490 points;

3rd place: “Velo bremzes” team from Iecava Secondary School; 473 points;

4th place: “Skaistkalne” team from Skaistkalne Secondary School; 406 points;

5th place: “Meža kaķi” team from the Mazpulks group at Mežgaļi Primary School; 368 points.

At the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, know how to provide first aid, understand the construction of a bicycle and complete a practical cycling test.

For 22 years, CSDD has organised the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia to engage young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round being held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The upcoming competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Monday, 18 May, at 11:00 a.m., in Kauguri by the monument to Captain Zolt; school teams from the city of Jūrmala are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 19 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Cēsis City Primary School; school teams from Amata, Cēsis, Rauna, Priekuļi, Līgatne, Vecpiebalga, Jaunpiebalga and Pārgauja municipalities are invited to participate;

• Thursday, 21 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Limbaži City Stadium; school teams from Limbaži, Salacgrīva and Aloja municipalities are invited to participate;

• Friday, 22 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base by the Riga Motor Museum; school teams from Babīte, Mārupe, Olaine, Ķekava and Salaspils

Garkalne, Ropaži, Mālpils, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Carnikava, Ādaži, Saulkrasti, Baldone, Krimulda, Stopiņi and Sēja municipalities, as well as the city of Riga, are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final participating.

To participate in the competition, students must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—choose a team name and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and participants must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the specific team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team must be accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by CSDD. In developing the competition content, CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been CSDD’s partner in educational projects for many years. The competition is implemented by the association “Par stipru Latviju”; it is financed from MTPL funds and supported by the Latvian Automobile and Touring Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
