The twenty-first stage of the first-round competition of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum”!
Ikšķile Secondary School triumphs at the CSDD young cyclists’ competition in Ogre
The Ikšķile Secondary School team “Ašie braucēji” convincingly triumphed in the twenty-first stage of the first-round competition of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” in Ogre, held on 13 May: Silva Bruno Kalviņš, Oskars Cīrulis, Ralfs Repsis, Patrīcija Rocēna, Līva Anna Zacmane, Līva Vanaga and teacher Aivars Birkmanis.
The first-round competition of the CSDD young cyclists’ competition “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” in Ogre attracted the largest number of teams to date: a total of 24 teams from Lielvārde, Ķegums, Ogre and Ikšķile municipalities took part. A convincing victory, with 703 points, and the right to compete in the next round—the Latvian final—were won by the Ikšķile Secondary School team “Ašie braucēji”. There was also fierce competition in the individual event this time, with Sandis Kauliņš and Amanda Jušika sharing first place.

At the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, be able to provide first aid, know the construction of a bicycle and complete a practical riding course.
For 22 years now, the CSDD has organised the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia to raise young road users’ interest in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:
Friday, 15 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Valmiera Basic School; schools from Mazsalaca, Rūjiena, Burtnieki, Kocēni, Beverīna and Naukšēni municipalities, as well as Valmiera city, are invited to participate;
Monday, 18 May, at 11:00 a.m., in Kauguri by the monument to Captain Zolts; school teams from Jūrmala city are invited to participate;
Tuesday, 19 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Cēsis City Basic School; school teams from Amata, Cēsis, Rauna, Priekuļi, Līgatne, Vecpiebalga, Jaunpiebalga and Pārgauja municipalities are invited to participate;
Thursday, 21 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Limbaži City Stadium; school teams from Limbaži, Salacgrīva and Aloja municipalities are invited to participate;
Friday, 22 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base near the Riga Motor Museum; school teams from Babīte, Mārupe, Olaine, Ķekava, Salaspils, Garkalne, Ropaži, Mālpils, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Carnikava, Ādaži, Saulkrasti, Baldone, Krimulda, Stopiņi and Sēja municipalities are invited to participate.
The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that receive the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final participating.
To participate in the competition, students must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—choose a team name and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and the team must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the specific team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the competition content, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been the CSDD’s partner in educational projects for several years. The competition is implemented by the association “For a Strong Latvia”, financed from OCTA funds, and supported by the Latvian Automobile and Motorcycling Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
