The twentieth stage of the first round of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition in Alūksne.

The twentieth stage of the first round of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition took place in Alūksne on 12 May. This time, a convincing victory was won by the Strautiņi Primary School team “Strauti-1”: Vita Vanaga, Laura Seimuškina, Annija Āboliņa, Agris Upmanis, Emīls Magaziņš, Ingars Mukstiņš and teacher Tija Āboliņa, who took the top step of the podium.

A total of eleven teams from the city of Alūksne and the municipalities of Alūksne and Ape took part in the twentieth stage of the first round of the CSDD young cyclists’ competition “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” in Alūksne. With 788 points in the overall standings, first place was taken by team “Strauti-1” from Strautiņi Primary School. This team automatically qualified to participate in the Latvian final of the young cyclists’ competition, which will take place from 5 to 6 June. Artūrs Bērziņš won the individual competition.

Overall results:

1st place: team “Strauti-1” from Strautiņi Primary School; 788 points;

2nd place: team “Strauti-2” from Strautiņi Primary School; 623 points;

3rd place: team “6 Bananas” from Alūksne City Primary School; 614 points;

4th place: team “Tiger Cubs” from Alūksne City Primary School; 600 points;

5th place: team “Strauti-3” from Strautiņi Primary School; 596 points;

6th place: team “Ape Rogues” from Dāvis Ozoliņš Ape Secondary School; 587 points;

7th place: team “Cēči” from Alūksne City Primary School; 566 points;

8th place: team “Āboli-2” from Alūksne City Primary School; 542 points;

9th place: team “The Magical Six” from Alūksne City Primary School; 464 points;

10th place: team “Āboli-1” from Alūksne City Primary School; 438 points;

11th place: team “Alūksne Residents” from Alūksne City Primary School; 430 points.

During the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the road traffic regulations, know how to provide first aid, be familiar with the construction of a bicycle, and complete a practical cycling course.

For 22 years, CSDD has organised the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia to interest young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round being held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Thursday, 14 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bauska branch of the Riga Motor Museum; teams from schools in Iecava, Bauska, Vecumnieki and Rundāle municipalities are invited to participate;

• Friday, 15 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Valmiera Primary School; schools from Mazsalaca, Rūjiena, Burtnieki, Kocēni, Beverīna and Naukšēni municipalities, as well as the city of Valmiera, are invited to participate;

• Monday, 18 May, at 11:00 a.m., in Kauguri, at the monument to Captain Zolts; school teams from the city of Jūrmala are invited to participate;

• Tuesday, 19 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Cēsis City Primary School; school teams from Amata, Cēsis, Rauna, Priekuļi, Līgatne, Vecpiebalga, Jaunpiebalga and Pārgauja municipalities are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will involve the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, or the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final participating.

To participate in the competition, students must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—come up with a team name, and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. The team’s participation in the competition must be approved by a teacher or another adult, and participants must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the particular team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team is accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by CSDD. In developing the competition content, CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been CSDD’s educational-project partner for many years.
