CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” first-round competition held in Valmiera!

The first-round competition of the CSDD “Young Road Users’ Forum” was held in Valmiera on 15 May. The highest score and first place were won by the “Sixth Gear” team from Valmiera Primary School: Alise Laura Kjaspere, Alise Jansone, Krista  Ķepīte, Mārtiņš Emīls Treimanis, Alekss Plauka, Rūdolfs Eglītis and teacher Gita Baltā.

Eight teams from Valmiera, Mazsalaca, Burtnieki and Kocēni municipalities took part in the twenty-third first-round event of the CSDD young cyclists’ competition “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015” in Valmiera. In the overall standings, the “Sixth Gear” team from Valmiera Primary School scored 519 points and took first place, automatically qualifying for the second round—the Latvian final. Dāvis Lācis won the individual competition.

Overall results:

1st place: “Sixth Gear” team from Valmiera Primary School; 519 points;

2nd place: “Mazsalaca” team from Mazsalaca Secondary School; 481 points;

3rd place: “Mazsalaca Devils” team from Mazsalaca Secondary School; 457 points;

4th/5th place: “Riding Together” team from Valmiera Pārgauja Primary School; 411 points;

4th/5th place: “Cacti” team from Valmiera Pārgauja Primary School; 411 points;

6th place: “R” team from Rancēni Basic School; 383 points;

7th place: “Spinach” team from Jaunburtnieki Basic School; 242 points;

8th place: “Knaģīši” team from Jaunburtnieki Basic School; 164 points.

In the competition, the young cyclists had to demonstrate theoretical knowledge of traffic regulations, be able to provide first aid, know the structure of a bicycle and complete a practical cycling test.

For 22 years, the CSDD has organised the “Young Road Users’ Forum” competition throughout Latvia to engage young road users in road safety and promote safety on the roads. As usual, the competition takes place in three rounds, with the first round held in various regions of Latvia from 10 April to 27 May. The next competitions are scheduled as follows:

• Tuesday, 19 May, at 11:00 a.m., at Cēsis City Basic School; school teams from Amata, Cēsis, Rauna, Priekuļi, Līgatne, Vecpiebalga, Jaunpiebalga and Pārgauja municipalities are invited to participate;

• Thursday, 21 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Limbaži City Stadium; school teams from Limbaži, Salacgrīva and Aloja municipalities are invited to participate;

• Friday, 22 May, at 11:00 a.m., at the Biķernieki Complex Sports Base next to the Riga Motor Museum; school teams from Babīte, Mārupe, Olaine, Ķekava, Salaspils,

Garkalne, Ropaži, Mālpils, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Carnikava, Ādaži, Saulkrasti, Baldone, Krimulda, Stopiņi and Sēja municipalities, as well as from the city of Riga, are invited to participate.

The second round of the “Young Road Users’ Forum 2015”—the Latvian final—is scheduled for 5–6 June and will be attended by the teams that achieved the highest scores in the first-round competitions in their respective regions. The third round, the European Young Road Users’ Competition, will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 3–6 September, with the winning team of the Latvian final participating.

To participate in the competition, students must have been born in 2003–2005, form a team of six people—three girls and three boys—choose a team name and complete the electronic application form on the website http://www.berniem.csdd.lv/index.php/satiksmes-drosiba/reg/konkursi. Participation by the team must be agreed with a teacher or another adult, and participants must bring a signed school confirmation of the participation of the respective team and students in the Young Road Users’ Forum. Each team must be accompanied to the competition by one or two adults—teachers or parents.

The Young Road Users’ Forum is organised by the CSDD. In developing the content of the competition, the CSDD cooperates with the National Centre for Education, which has been the CSDD’s partner in educational projects for many years. The competition is implemented by the association “For a Strong Latvia”; it is funded from MTPL funds, with support from the Latvian Automobile and Motorcycling Association and the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
