Employers invited to offer vacancies to students during the summer holidays
The Zemgale Region Competence development Centre (ZRKAC) invites employers to apply by 23 April with vacancies for the summer employment of ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grade students. Vacancies may be offered by commercial enterprises, state and municipal institutions, and associations.
If the pandemic-related situation improves and restrictions are eased, this summer the Jelgava Municipality will once again offer students aged 13 to 18 from educational institutions the opportunity to work during the summer, provided that their place of residence is declared in the city of Jelgava and they attend general education schools in the city of Jelgava.
Ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grade students will be able to work six hours a day for three weeks during the summer holidays. To provide work that is aligned with young people’s ideas about their future careers and professions, ZRKAC invites companies and institutions in the city to apply with vacancies so that young people can become acquainted with the working environment of their chosen future professions and gain work experience.
The municipality will provide employers with full funding for the student’s remuneration (including the employer’s mandatory state social insurance contributions) and compensation for unused annual leave. The municipality will also insure students against accidents at work during their employment; however, the funding does not include transport expenses related to employment.
Offers of vacancies for summer employment may be submitted electronically, signed with a secure electronic signature and sent by email to uznemejdarbiba@zrkac.jelgava.lv or birojs@zrkac.jelgava.lv; sent by post to the Zemgale Region Competence Development Centre, 33 Svētes Street, Jelgava, LV-3001, marking the envelope “For the employment of students during the summer holidays”; or submitted in person at ZRKAC, 33 Svētes Street, Jelgava (Customer Service Office, first floor).
Vacancies for the summer employment of ninth- to eleventh-grade students will be compiled, and a list of the available vacancies will be published on the ZRKAC websites www.zrkac.lv and www.jelgava.lb on 5 May. Information on how students can apply for specific vacancies and which documents must be submitted will also be available there. Applications will be accepted from 5 to 20 May, while the students’ applications will be evaluated by 4 June.
It should be recalled that summer employment for younger students (sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students) will be organised in the same way as in previous years and will continue to be coordinated by the Jelgava Education Department. Students aged 13 and 14 will be able to work four hours a day for two weeks per month, and they will be provided with summer work at municipal educational institutions—schools, preschools and the “Junda” Youth Creativity Centre. Students in these grades will be able to apply for summer work at their school in May.
The summer employment arrangements for ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grade students will change this year, however, and will henceforth be coordinated by ZRKAC. When applying for vacancies, young people will have to submit an application, a CV and a cover letter indicating, in order of priority, the workplaces they wish to apply to and their motivation for working there, as well as the connection with their future career and professional development.
