“HEART HEALTH DAY” WAS HELD IN DAUGAVPILS
World Heart Day is observed every year on 29 September. Its aim is to promote awareness of heart health and reduce the impact of problems associated with cardiovascular diseases around the world.
To celebrate World Heart Day together, on 24 September this year, during the Mežciems Run, from 10:00 to 13:00, an educational and interactive event for the residents of Daugavpils—“Heart Health Day”—was held in Vienības Square, Daugavpils.
As part of the event, residents were offered free cardiovascular health risk screenings and informed about the importance of preventing heart disease:
- blood pressure and pulse were measured,
- blood oxygen saturation was measured,
- blood cholesterol and glucose levels were determined.
- body mass index was determined;
- free educational materials on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and recommendations for a healthy lifestyle were made available
Those interested could receive recommendations from health-care management physician Inta Vaivode on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, with emphasis on the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle, as well as information about the possible consequences that may affect people who ignore healthy lifestyle habits.
