DNKC “Vārpa” screened the documentary film “Illuminate Latvia”

On Thursday, 7 February, the documentary film “Illuminate Latvia” was screened at the “Vārpa” Cultural Centre of Daugavpils Municipality. It depicts the most vivid moments from the expedition organised by the Imants Ziedonis Museum and the “1836” Foundation, during which hikes were held around Latvia. Students from Daugavpils Vienības Basic School also came to the DNKC “Vārpa” to watch the documentary film; after the screening, they met with representatives of the Imants Ziedonis Museum.

Three years ago, the Imants Ziedonis Museum and the “1836” Foundation began implementing the “Illuminate Latvia” campaign. As part of it, an expedition—a hike along Latvia’s border—was held. The expedition took place across the territories of 43 municipalities, while the culmination of the campaign was 21 June of the previous year, when, at 6:36 p.m., all residents of Latvia were invited to celebrate the summer solstice together and light a bonfire in honour of Latvia’s centenary. The expedition’s most vivid moments were captured in photographs and in the documentary film “Illuminate Latvia”, which was screened at the “Vārpa” Cultural Centre of Daugavpils Municipality on Thursday, 7 February.
