Zita Nitiša, a student at the Faculty of Music and Arts of Daugavpils University, won a silver medal at the 4th International Festival for Young Performers of Vocal Music competition  "Riga Symphony 2015".
From 3 to 7 December, the 4th International Festival for Young Performers of Vocal Music, Riga Symphony 2015, took place in Riga. It was organised by the EUROPEAN CHILDREN’S MUSIC CENTRE. Delegations from 35 countries attended the festival. The festival featured 18 participants from Israel, the same number from Malta and Spain, 20 participants from Georgia, 21 from Kazakhstan, 8 from Finland,  as well as our own hosts and neighbours from Lithuania and Estonia. Participants from such exotic places as Africa and Paraguay enriched the festival. As part of the festival, a competition was held in five categories: original song, world hit, a song by a popular Latvian composer, folk song, and academic vocal.
This year, the festival’s source of inspiration and muse was Ilona Bagele, a laureate of the highest award in Latvian music, the Great Music Prize, and a soloist with the Latvian National Opera. Alongside her jury duties, Ilona led a masterclass for the festival participants and, at the Gala Concert, gave the audience an insight into her award-winning musical and theatrical production «Cantando y amando».
Zita Nitiša, a fourth-year student of Ilona Bagele at the DU Faculty of Music and Arts, took part in this festival and won the second-place award—a silver medal—in the academic vocal category.
