On Tuesday, 15 December, DU was visited by the Rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Dr. hist. Gatis Krūmiņš, and a delegation from the university's leadership.  During the visit, the leadership of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) met with the Rector of DU, Professor Arvīds Barševskis, and discussed the future development of both universities, the allocation of state-funded study places  and other topical education-related issues, as well as familiarised themselves with DU's infrastructure.
ViA's Vice-Rector for Administration Iveta Putniņa and Chief Financial Officer Ginta Sēne were interested in how DU accounts for funding allocated to science and in other related matters concerning reports on scientific and research activities. ViA became a scientific institution only this year and therefore wished to gain experience from DU. The guests were interested in DU's Confucius Classroom, its establishment process and financing.
At the Faculty of Life Sciences and Technologies building, the ViA guests familiarised themselves with the work of the laboratories and the equipment acquired for the natural sciences. Vice-Rector for Science, Associate Professor I. Kokina, spoke about priority study and research areas, DU's achievements, the organisation of scientific work and project development, and shared her experience with her ViA colleagues. The discussions addressed areas in which DU and ViA could cooperate in the future, as well as ways to develop cooperation between both universities and businesses.
The ViA guests had a unique opportunity to participate in and enjoy wonderful moments of positive atmosphere at DU's Christmas exhibition and fair, “The Gingerbread Forest”, where ViA Rector G. Krūmiņš noted that DU has considerable creative potential, evident not only in the modern, suitably equipped premises and laboratories required for the study process, but also in the ingenuity of its students and teaching staff  in organising events of this kind..
In the afternoon, the guests, accompanied by DU Rector A. Barševskis, travelled to the “Ilgas” Study and Research Centre, where they familiarised themselves with the Coleopterological Research Centre and also visited the newly constructed building of the Forest Biodiversity Laboratory. The work accomplished in this field also pleasantly surprised the guests, who noted that DU had carried out an enormous amount of work  in developing equipment for study and research.
