Beetle researchers at Daugavpils University have discovered a unique beetle subspecies—the Schwarzer's longhorn beetle Pseudodoliops elegans schwarzeri. In 1934, the German entomologist Schultze described it as new to science based on a single specimen from the tropical rainforests of Mindanao, an island in the Philippine archipelago. At the beginning of last year, beetles needed for research were collected in the vicinity of Agusan del Norte on Mindanao at the request of scientists from Daugavpils University. They succeeded in collecting the second specimen of this subspecies currently known in the world. It was rediscovered eighty-two years after its discovery.
