Eurovision Choir and Raimonds Pauls in Concert
This Saturday, 21 October at 7:00 p.m., Maestro Raimonds Pauls and the SPĪGO girls’ choir invite you to the concert “If the Sun Were to Reach Out Its Hand” in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia.
The first part of the concert offers a treat for music lovers—a cycle about Latvia’s rivers and Songs of the Sun, featuring the Maestro’s exquisite choral music with the composer himself at the piano. Salaca, Gauja, Venta, Irbe and other rivers will colour this portrait of our beloved Latvia with the poetic texts of Inese Zandere, which reveal the distinctive character of each river.
The second part features a special selection of the most beautiful songs from the production “The Nights of Cabiria”, with lyrics by Jānis Peters. They will once again be performed by Ance Krauze, the first performer of this music in Latvian. In this version, the sound will be enriched by the added voices of the SPĪGO girls’ choir.
The concert will also feature songs from the musical “Sister Carrie” and a medley from the production “The Parish Bazaar”, when the “Rota” wind orchestra joins the choir. The accompanying band is from the Latvian Radio Big Band. The concert will be hosted by TV personality Arnis Krauze.
This year, “Spīgo” represented Latvia in the first international competition, “Eurovision Choir of the Year 2017”, and has also won first place in the women’s choir category at the Latvian Song Festival in both 2008 and 2013.
The concert has been created with the support of the State Culture Capital Foundation and the Jelgava City Council.
Tickets are available at “Biļešu paradīze” box offices throughout Latvia and www.bilesuparadize.lv. Pensioners receive a 50% discount upon presentation of identification.
