Tours and Tastings at the Fishing Homestead “Dieniņas”

This fishing homestead is situated in one of the oldest fishing villages on the Courland side of the Gulf of Riga, and the call: “Fish, come to the yard” beckons every passerby. The hosts of “Dieniņas” have been engaged in the fishing trade for at least five generations and offer guests a seaside retreat, traditions, "theater," and a genuine fish tasting experience. The fishing homestead offers both tours and tastings, as well as overnight accommodations. Tours are recommended for tourist groups, work collectives, schoolchildren, families, wedding parties, and anniversary celebrants – everyone will receive personalized attention and entertainment. Since the sea is nearby, there will be various activities on the shore, humorous stories about history from the fisherwomen, local dialect "theater" performances, and, of course, a feast with genuine local fish tasting. The fish are prepared according to ancient local recipes. The event lasts about two to three hours. The fishing homestead adapts to all seasons, so you can visit in winter or summer – you'll always have a different experience!
One of the entertainments is the “Journey Through Time,” available both in summer and winter. You can learn about the history of the fishing homestead, work, fish smoking, and processing. The lunch offer includes three dishes – as the hosts say:
Soup – varies each time, but always delicious.
Fried fish with turnips and salads – fried fish (whichever is caught) with turnips, various salads, and sauce;
A very, very tasty dessert
Hot and cold drinks with the meal; Duration of the event approx. 3h
You can also arrange for a shorter visit without the stories. (But then it will be just plain eating:))
Depending on the season, “Dieniņas” offers dried flounder, hot-smoked pike and eel, flounder, whitefish, herring, sprats, bream, smelt, vimba, perch, and other local fish.
For those who wish, there is the possibility to stay overnight in an old fishing house. The house has 2 rooms (a bedroom and a large room with a fireplace), a toilet, a bathroom (with heated floors and hot water), a kitchen with all equipment, and a glassed-in veranda. Suitable for up to 4 people.
There is a garden, a countryside sauna, a hot tub, free internet (Wi-Fi), a boat on Lake Engure, and it's also possible to buy fish from the hosts.
Breakfast and dinner are available.
